Only 4 contenders are survived in Australian Open women's singles draw albeit without its favourite Serena Williams. US teenage Sloane Stephens outplayed Williams, whose movement and serves had been slowed by a back injury, and beat the 15-time Grand Slam champion 3-6,7-5,6-4. The top seed and the defending champion Victoria Azarenka beat Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5,6-1 in another quarterfinal on Rod Laver Arena. Maria Sharapova, who has lost only nine games in five matches, plays Li Na in the other semifinal. Sharapova outclassed compatriot Ekaterina Makarova 6-2,6-2 while Na Li defeated Agnieszka Radwanksa ending her 13 match winning streak.
