Serena battles through, Shvedova earns a golden set

Serena Williams came through a tough match to reach the fourth round at Wimbledon against China's 25th seed Zheng Jie 6-7,6-2,9-7. Serena hit 23 aces and never broken throughout the match. Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan became the first player in a Grand Slam tournament to win every point of a set on her way to beating French Open runner up Sara Errani 6-0, 6-4 in the third round of Wimbledon. According to tournament organizers and the ITF, Shvedova is just the second known player in the Open Era to achieve a ''golden set'' by winning 24 straight points.

Defending champion Petra Kvitova cruised into the fourth round of Wimbledon on Saturday, beating Varvara Lepchenko of United States 6-1, 6-0 in less than hour.The fourth-seeded Czech will next face Francesca Schiavone of Italy, who beat Klara Zakopalova 6-0,6-4

Ivanovic through to round four

Former world number one Ana Ivanovic of Serbia defeated 22nd seed Julia Goerges of Germany 3-6,6-3,6-4 to reach the last 16 of Championships of Wimbledon for the first time since 2009. Ivanovic is one of few grand slam champions left in the women's draw and her best result in Wimbledon comes from 2007 when she reaches Semi finals losing to the eventual champion Venus Williams

Clijsters reached fourth round after Zvonareva pulled out


Kim Clijsters reached the last 16 at her last Wimbledon when Russia's Vera Zvonareva was forced to retire through illness trailing 6-3 4-3 in their third round match. Clijsters will play German eighth seed Angelique Kerber who beat Christina McHale 6-2,6-3. Maria Kirilenko and Peng Shuai also earned easy victories to place in the last 16

World number one Maria Sharapova and world number three Agnieszka Radwanska booked their fourth round spots by beating Su-Wei Hsieh of Taiwan 6-1,6-4 and Heather Watson of Great Britain 6-0,6-2 respectively in the third round of Wimbledon. Radwanska will meet Italian qualifier Camila Giorgi, who beat Nadia Petrova, and Sharapova faces Sabine Lisicki of Germany, who came through after a tight three setter against American Sloane Stephens

Ivanovic, Sharapova, Serena through to round 3




Former world number one Ana Ivanovic of Serbia and the defending champion Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic made into the third round of Championships of Wimbledon beating Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3,7-6 and Elena Baltacha 6-0,6-4 respectively. Number 2 seed Victoria Azarenka eased past Romina Oprandi of Switzerland 6-2,6-0 where as qualifier Mirjana Lucic of Croatia discomfited 2007 Runner up France's Marion Bartoli 6-4,6-3. 13 time grand slam champion Serena Williams of USA defeated Melinda Czink 6-1,6-4 to reach the third round of championships of Wimbledon. She will play Zheng Jie of China who beat Aleksandra Wozniack of Canada 6-4,6-2. Italian Roberta Vinci,21st seed, beat Marina Erakovic 6-4,6-3 in another second round match. World number one Maria Sharapova defeated Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria 7-6,6-7,6-0 in a three sets battle. Sharapova will meet Hsieh Su-wei of Chinese Taipei in the third round. 8th seed Angelique Kerber outclassed Ekaterina Makarova in straight sets meanwhile 10th seed Sara Errani easily past Anne Keothavong of Great Britain 6-1,6-1

Wozniacki blows two match points, loses in first round

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark lost to the recent Eastbourne champion Tamira Paszek of Austra in the opening round of Wimbledon. The Dane saved four set points in the first set although wasted two match points in the second set before losing 5-7,7-6(4),6-4. Kim Clijsters eased into the third round at Wimbledon on Wednesday, beating Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3.Clijsters is playing in her final Wimbledon tournament and will play Vera Zvonareva next. Former French Open champion Li Na's Wimbledon campaign came to an end due to her second round shocking lost to Romania's Sorana Cirstea. Cirstea beat Li 6-3,6-4. Agnieszka Radwanska had no troubles beating Russia's Elena Vesnina ,who beat Venus Williams in the first round. The Pole won in straight sets 6-2,6-1

Former world number one Ana Ivanovic of Serbia is now the only Serbian woman left in the women's singles draw of 2012 Wimbledon championship. Ivanovic got through her first round match in three sets against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain 6-3,3-6,6-3 and she will play Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine in the second round. Sabine Lisicki, last year's semi finalist, survived in her second round match against Bojana Javanowsky of Serbia. Lisicki won 3-6,6-2,8-6. 5th seed Samantha Stosur is the highest seeded player to lose early as she was knocked out by Arantxa Rus of Netherlands 2-6,6-0,4-6. Serena and Venus Williams to play Olympic doubles

Serena and Venus Williams have been chosen to participate in Olympics doubles. Williams sisters won 2000 Sydney and 2008 Beijing Olympics together. Williams sisters will play doubles as well as singles. Venus Williams also won gold in singles in 2000, and she's the only three time gold medalist in U.S. tennis history

 The defending champion Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic started her title defense by beating Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan 6-4,6-4. Clijsters, Sharapova got off to a good start


Kim Clijsters beat former top ranked player Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 6-2, 6-4 in the first round of Wimbledon. World number one Maria Sharapova of Russia defeated Anastasia Rodionova of Australia 6-2,6-3. Sharapova is the 2004 champion and last year's runner up

Stosur, Radwanska, Li cruise into round 2

US Open champion Samantha Stosur and former French Open winner Li Na reached the Wimbledon second round. Stosur cruised past Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-3 meanwhile Li Na made a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan. Sharapova winning French Open

Sharapova completes career slam



Maria Sharapova won the French Open on Saturday, defeating Sara Errani 6-3, 6-2 in the final at Roland Garros to complete the career Grand Slam. Sharapova added this year's French Open title to championships at Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006 and the Australian Open in 2008 to become only the 10th woman to win all four major tournaments. Sharapova will overtake Victoria Azarenka on Monday, when the new rankings are published

Kerber sets Errani clash in French Open quarters



Angelique Kerber defeated Petra Martic 6-3,7-5 in the fourth round of French Open to reach the quarter finals meanwhile Sara Errani out lasted the 2009 champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-0,7-5. Errani now has beaten two former French Open champions in a row; Errani beat Ana Ivanovic in three sets in the previous round. Both Kerber and Errani had never reached the last eight of Roland Garros before
