Fourth seed Li Na progressed to the third round of the Australian Open after a 6-0,7-6 victory against teenager Belinda Bencic. Bencic put up more of a challenge in the second set to force a tie-break but Li prevailed to win 6-0 7-6 (7-5). Last year's Wimbledon finalists 15th seed Sabine Lisicki bomb out in the second round to Monica Niculescu of Romania 2-6,6-2,6-2.
