Sharapova gets past Robson, Lisicki next
Maria Sharapova through to the round of 16 after beating home favourite Laura Robson 7-6,6-3. Sharapova will next play 15th seed Sabine Lisicki of Germany, who beat Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5. Victoria Azarenka eased past Maria Jose Martina Sanchez of Spain meanwhile British Heather Watson was knocked out by another Russian Maria Kirilenko. Russia won gold, silver and bronze in Beijing and four of the Russian women's singles players are safely through the round of 16 after two rounds in London this year

Three time gold medalist Venus Williams of the USA advanced to the third round of the Olympic tennis competition by beating Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada 6-1,6-3. Williams will play Angelique Kerber who easily past Hungary's Timea Babos 6-1,6-1

Ivanovic returns to Hopman Cup
Ana Ivanovic of Serbia will return to Perth to compete in next year's Hopman Cup to represent Serbia. Ivanovic will be partnered by current world number one Novak Djokovic. The Serbian pair will be appearing together at the event for the third
time. They made their debut in 2006 and in 2011 they reached the final, but pulled out before the final due to Ivanovic's injury. "I feel that we have some unfinished business at this tournament!" Ivanovic said. Eight two player teams will contest the competition. They are divided
into two groups of four, with the winners of the two groups facing each
other in the final. Next year's tournament will take place at the brand new Perth Arena, which will open just two months before the tournament takes place

Former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic beat Shuai Peng of China in the second round of 2012 Olympics in three sets 7-5,2-6,6-1. Radwanska out, Sharapova through
World number two and recent Wimbledon runner up Agnieszka Radwanska was eliminated, in the opening round of the Olympic tennis event, by Julia Goerges of Germany 5-7,7-6,6-4. Maria Sharapova began her Olympic campaign beating Israel's Shahar Peer in straight sets 6-2,6-0. Sharapova will play Britain's Laura Robson or Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic for a last 16 berth

Wozniacki and Kvitova survives, Li and Stosur among first round losers
Australian Samantha Stosur, 5th seed, lost in the opening round of 2012 Olympics. Stosur is the highest seeded player to lose in the first day. US Open champion was defeated by Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-3,5-7,8-10. Former French Open champion Li Na also suffered a first round exit by Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova 2-6,6-3,3-6. Both Caroline Wozniacki and Petra Kvitova needed three sets to reach the second round. Wozniacki beat local favourite Anne Keothavong 4-6,6-3,6-2 and Kvitova beat Katerina Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-4,5-7,6-4. Williams won singles, doubles
Serena Williams beat Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-1,5-7,6-2 to win a fifth championship at the All England Club and 14th major title overall. Williams was playing in her 18th major final; Radwanska in her first. Actually, she'd never won a match beyond the quarter finals at a Grand Slam tournament until this week. Later she and sister Venus were back on Centre Court to beat Czech duo Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka 7-5,6-4 Saturday in the doubles final. It was their fifth Wimbledon doubles title together

Paszek first into quarter finals
Austria's Tamira Paszek is the first player through to 2012 Wimbledon
quarter finals beating Roberta Vinci of Italy 6-2,6-2. The Austrian
saved two match points in the opening round against Caroline Wozniacki.
Paszek, the recent Eastbourne champion, reached the quarter finals last
year too and lost to Victoria Azarenka. She will face either Victoria
Azarenka or Ana Ivanovic next
