Ivanovic eases into round two, Wozniacki bombs out
Former world number one Ana Ivanovic of Serbia eased past qualifier Elina Svitolina of Ukrain 6-3,6-2 in the opening round of US Open. Ivanovic will meet Sofia Arvidson in second round who beat the veteran Kimiko Date Krumm in first round. Meanwhile Irina Camelia Begu made the biggest upset of the tournament so far by beating another former world number one and 8th seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-2,6-2
Serena starts the US Open campaign
Serena Williams dropped just two games to start her US Open campaign as she defeated fellow American Coco Vandeweghe 6-1,6-1. Serena will meet Maria Jose Martina Sanchez in the second round
Radwanska through to round 2
Second seed Agnieszka Radwanska made an impressive start to her US Open campaign with a 6-1,6-1 victory over Nina Bratichikova of Russia. World number two Radwanska showed no signs of a shoulder injury that forced her out of the New Haven tournament last week. Venus Williams overpowered Bethanie Mattek-Sands 6-3 6-1 and in the process clocked
the fastest women's serve of the tournament to date at 124 mph. Venus will meet Angelique Kerber of Germany in the second round who beat Anne Keothavong 6-2,6-0. Seeded players Sara Errani and Dominica Cibulkova also through to round of 64 after three sets victories

Kvitova of Czech Republic started her US Open campaign beating Polona
Hercog of Slovania 7-6,6-1. The top seed Victoria Azarenka easily past
Alexandra Panova of Russia 6-0 6-1 in the opening round. 16th seed
Sabine Lisicki and 18th seed Julia Goerges were surprisingly beaten in
the opening round by Sorana Cirstea and Kristyna Pliskova respectively
Stosur, Sharapova ease through
The defending champion Samantha Stosur of Australia crushed talented Croatian Petra Martic 6-1 6-1 in just 51 minutes to reach the second round of US Open. The defending champion picked up right where she left off 12 months ago. 2006 champion and former world's number one Maria Sharapova of Russia also made into the round 2 after beating Hungary's Melinda Czink 6-2, 6-

Kvitova conquers New Haven and US Open series
Petra Kvitova claimed her second title of the season by beating Maria Kirilenko 7-6,7-5 in the final of the New Haven Open. Kvitova has secured the top spot in the US Open Series standings as a result of her performance in the tournaments heading into the final Grand Slam of the season

Ivanovic withdraws from Cincinnati
Ana has been forced to withdraw from Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati due to a right foot injury.
"I'm very sorry to that I'm withdrawing from this event," said Ana. "It kind of turned around my season two years ago and I was hoping to draw on those positive experiences this week.
I've had soreness in my right foot for the past week, so I decided to have it checked: I did an MRI scan at the weekend and it showed a tear. The doctors have advised me to rest my foot totally for at least five days, so this means I can't play."

Williams beats Sharapova for gold, Azarenka claims Bronze
Serena Williams won her first
Olympic tennis women's singles gold on Saturday with a 6-0 6-1
demolition of Russia's Maria Sharapova on Wimbledon's Center
Court. Williams breezed her way to the gold medal to become the first woman

Sharapova battles past Lisicki, Kvitova eases through
Maria Sharapova defeated Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-7,6-4,6-3 to reach
the quarter finals of 2012 Olympics tennis event. The Russian will meet
Kim Clijsters of Belgium who beat Serbia's Ana Ivanovic 6-3,6-4.
Meanwhile Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova outclassed Flavia Pennetta
6-3,6-0 to set a quarter final showdown against another Russian Maria
Kirilenko. Kirilenko reached the last eight beating Julia Goerges of
Germany in straight sets 7-6,6-3.
Seventh
seed Germany's Angelique Kerber defeated three time Olympic gold
medalist Venus Williams of USA 7-6,7-6 to reach the quarterfinals. In
the first set Williams failed to convert three set points, then blew a
5-1 lead in the tiebreaker. She was up 3-1 in the second set, but Kerber
again came back. World number one Victoria Azarenka and former world
number one Caroline Wozniacki also earned spot in the quarterfinals

Serena Williams of USA defeated 2008 Olympic singles bronze medalist Russian Vera Zvonareva dropping only a single game 6-1,6-0. Serena will meet ether Caroline Wozniacki or Daniela Hantuchova in the last eight stage
