Radwanska survives Putintseva test, Jankvoic safely through

Agnieszka Radwanska came through a tough opening round match over Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan in Melbourne's blistering heat. The Pole bageled the 19 year old opponent but she fought back to clinch the second set 7-5 pushing the encounter to a surprised three setter. However after two hours and 22 minutes Radwanska captured the decider 6-2 to close out the encounter and place in second round, where she meets Olivia Rogowska of Belarus. Former number one 8th seed Jelena Jankovic eased past Misaki Doi of Japan in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 in just 74 minutes, and her opponent in the second round of the season’s first Grand Slam will be Ayumi Morita of Japan, who beat the Ukrainian Nadiya Kichenok by 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).
